Moon | Man | Madness - The Lunatic effects!
CROSS THE SPAN OF CENTURIES, many a person has voiced an expression “It’s full moon today!” in an effort to clarify bizarre incidents at night. Sounds spooky, right!
Indeed, the Roman goddess of the moon tagged a name that rests well-known to us today: Luna, the prefix of the word “lunatic.” Roman historian Pliny the Elder & Greek philosopher Aristotle suggested that the brain was the “moistest” organ in the body and thereby most susceptible to the pernicious influences of the moon, which triggers the tides.
Now, I am not Aristotle nor a scientist but I understood this during my childhood itself, during my learning curve stage under my guru, my mentor & my grandfather Pt. Kedarnath Ji Misra, that moon certainly has some unaccounted effect on human brain during high & low tides, because if it can pull tons of sea water & cause tides, it must be doing something to human brain.
This kept me vigil & continue my search & I found that hundreds of scholars across the globe in the span of centuries have done similar research & there is no meaning to re-invest the wheel when you can take it few steps further from there. I was always amazed by this factual belief in the “lunar lunacy effect,” or “Transylvania effect,” as it is sometimes called, persisted in Europe through the Middle Ages, when humans were widely reputed to transmogrify into werewolves or vampires during a full moon.
Even today many people contemplate the supernatural powers of the full moon tempt inconsistent behaviours, psychiatric hospital admittance, a spike in crime rate, homicides, rapes, traffic accidents, fights at professional hockey games, dog bites and all manner of strange events. In our Hindu Sanatana Dharma practices, it is advised since centuries, not to go out in open during the full moon or no moon to avoid such happenings & rather do your prayers at home to keep your mind in control; a fair & simple way to avoid situations due to lunatic effects.
One survey revealed that 45 percent of college students believe moonstruck humans are prone to unusual behaviours, and other surveys suggest that mental health professionals may be still more likely than laypeople to hold this conviction. In 2007 several police departments in the U.K. even added officers on full-moon nights in an effort to cope with presumed higher crime rates.
According to astrology, Moon represents the Mother, the Divine Goddess, and the feminine creative principle. It shows the state of our mind, including thought, emotion, and intuition. A strong Moon shows nurturing, caring, sensitivity, and receptiveness, giving emotional maturity and responsibility, allowing us to benefit others. An afflicted Moon shows mental disturbance, a poor ability to relate to others, and personality disorders. The Moon is easily influenced by the energies of other planets. It symbolises relationship, interchange, and communication with others.
In short, if the moon is not balanced in your chart, you will have disturbing emotional quotient leading to several disorders. During my study on this subject in years, I have noticed that kids with Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD etc. have disturbing moon & there are treatments in astrology to suppress the aggressive side of such disturbing moon.
